Housing Glut?
Some local leaders say hardly, while others are expressing concern that the large amounts of multi-family complexes currently in the works--especially those targeted for low-income families--may be more than what is needed. "These things are a drain on the tax base," Tax Assessor/Collector Jimmie Ladner said in October. "We already have 514 of these units throughout the county in progress and hundreds more on the way. We don't want to become the destination of people who make less than 60 percent of the median income. We want to help our people, but we do not want to become the place where everyone else who needs help comes."
